Hunger: Resources of Parents

We know that a peaceful world cannot long exist, one-third rich and two-thirds hungry."
- Jimmy Carter

"The day that hunger is eradicated from the earth there will be the greatest spiritual explosion the world has ever known. Humanity cannot imagine the joy that will burst into the world."
- Federico Garcia Lorca, Spanish poet

IN TODAY'S SESSION... We explored hunger around the world and at home through a banquet demonstration. Participants were randomly chosen to sit at different tables, each set with differing amounts of food and we discussed the differences between each of the tables. We wondered why there might be more  food at some tables than others and what happens when there isn’t enough. We also shared ideas on what we can do to help make sure that everyone has enough.

UU Parenting Resources: Incarceration

Today our congregation began a conversation about mass incarceration and the war on drugs as part of a call for in-depth study on this issue to Flint area congregations. This Sunday's worship service is entitled:

It's Hard to Love a Criminal
Lets look at how the War on Drugs has served the white establishment in its racist building empire. Mass incarceration is a hard issue to love, but its consequences are dire.

Topics around incarceration, the war on drugs and race can be sensitive issues for people of all ages, and we hope that as we explore these issues as an intentional, loving congregation, that you will be inspired to continue talking about it beyond the walls of our church.

We recognize that there are many families in our communities who been touched by these difficult issues, and perhaps will wonder how to talk to and comfort the children in our midst. During The Moment For All Ages on Sunday, we introduced one of the tools available from the Sesame Workshop to help parents and children learn and talk with one another about incarceration. I hope that you will take a moment to view the video below and spend some time looking at some of the other fantastic resources that the Sesame Workshop has made available for families that have been touched by Incarceration.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or Rev. Deane.
In Faith,
Amy Peterson Derrick

Religious and Spiritual Exploration for All Ages

It's Registration Time!

Children and youth who participate in Sunday morning Religious Exploration programs at UUCF are encouraged to question, develop spiritual practices, explore other faith traditions, practice our Unitarian Universalist Principles, and build community through stories, song, games, crafts and discussion!

UUCF is a safe space for children and youth to question, grow, wonder and share while surrounded by the embrace of a community that values each person for who they are!

Taking a few minutes to register your child ensures that your family receives program updates and schedules, helps us provide a warm, welcoming environment for each child and helps us plan ahead.

Registration is free and is good through June 2014.
