Welcome!

Welcome to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Flint Lifespan Learning program! We are dedicated to creating opportunities for learning, spiritual growth, and community through our programming for all ages; from birth through adulthood. I hope that you and your family will find a home to help nurture you wherever you are along your spiritual journey!

Our faith is founded on a commitment to principle rather than to dogma, so our education programs may be quiet different than that of other church communities. We believe, as Socrates once said, “wisdom begins in wonder.” This simple phrase very eloquently describes our belief that one can achieve a higher sense of self, community and purpose through exploration and a commitment to questioning. It is our primary focus to provide a safe place to help foster this Socratic sense of wonder across the lifespan.

Each year, our lifespan learning classes for children and youth focus on one “pillar” of our Unitarian Universalist faith. These pillars, developed with our own congregation’s mission and vision in mind, include the Web of Life, Spirituality and Social Justice. This year, as we focus on developing Spirituality; each class will offer a broad knowledge of world religions, experience in spiritual practice, and an examination of what it really means to be a Unitarian Universalist.

Our curriculum is derived from many sources; some lessons come from story books and Unitarian Universalist Association- published curricula, while others come from the children as they interact with their peers and teachers. We recognize that sometimes the greatest lessons can come from our youngest members and hope that they will find an environment where they feel they will be heard.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact myself or a member of the Lifespan Learning Committee so that we can arrange a time to sit down together. I am so happy that you and your family are here with us!

In Faith,
